A Shared vision

Friends of Elk River: A citizen's group focusing on U.S. Forest Service policies in Elk River watershed. Owing to FOER's accomplishments (designation of Grassy Knob Wilderness Area, National Wild & Scenic River status, State Scenic Waterway designation and the Copper Salmon Wilderness proposal) Elk River is perhaps the most-intact low elevation coastal ecosystem in the USA.

Siskiyou Regional Education Project: Elk River is one of the areas protected in Siskiyou Project's proposed Wild Rivers National Monument.

World Wildlife Fund: Elk River is in one of World Wildlife Fund's (WWF) Global 200 featured ecoregions. ERLT's Sea to Siskiyous Passway complements WWF's Klamath-Siskiyou ("Galapagos of North America") work.

Ecoforestry Management Associates: Stewardship forestry experts, practicing exemplary forestry by working with nature to promote the ecological sustainability of the entire watershed. EMA's conservation-based management plans give forest owners SmartWood™ certification for their forest products, permitting consumers to use their buying power to support progressive forestry.

Despite Friends of Elk River's efforts to protect public land and Ecoforestry Management Associates' services to private landowners, current forestry regulations still allow rape-and-run forest practices that degrade watersheds and destroy forests. Clearcutting and herbicide application still occur in this critical watershed!

The proactive key to protecting private lands lies in voluntary land conservation and state-of-the-art stewardship forestry - areas in which ERLT is a key player.
